Wow – first Wesley Willis, now O.D.B has died. At 35 (almost 36) years of age. Wow.
I can understand people’s revulsion by the artist. But he was an artist. And he was capable of some really unique, really amazing stuff. I don’t know what the details of his recent life is, but surely what led up to this point can’t have made for a healthy lifestyle. So kids, stay away from drugs. Seriously.
Oh, Chris, I accidently deleted all my Wesley Willis. Do you still have any?
I agree. It’s hard to say he was a great person, but he was a talent in the music industry. These early death things always freak me out. My neighbor died this summer, simply falling over in her place of work. She was only 45 and seemed to be in good health, walking everyday with her dog. I guess when the reaper comes, it’s your time and there’s notthing you can do about it.
Could we stop talking about young deaths now?
Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version remains one of the greatest hip hop albums ever made. Half of the credit goes to the fact that it was made at a point when RZA was still exclusively producing the solo projects and ODB had some of the best production ever behind him. But still, when he was actually rapping and not wearing clown shoes (which aslo was good at times), the guy was amazing. That’s why his first album was definitely the best. I’d say it was one of the two best if not THE best Wu solo album. But that’s just me. Listen to track 10 (Goin’ Down). Amazing.
Did you catch this at the end of the article you linked:
