Why do I hate Walmart and love Ikea when they really aren’t that different? Is aesthetic that important?

I think you answer lies in the truth behind how many walmarts there are in the US compared to the number of ikeas!
At least IKEA appears to have solid environmental and social goals:

http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/about_ikea/low_price.html
and they won some EPA award…which is slightly comforting…
Whereas Walmart builds on wetlands etc etc and soforth….
Plus, walking arounf IKEA is about 1 million times less annoying than Walmart…
Those are all very valid points, but the $1.99 shower curtain liner we just bought that was made in china cannot be that environmentally friendly.
Ah…indeed.
what are you talking about? China has great environmental policies.
Ya, Ikea doesn’t clear cut rainforests, they grow thier own forests to clear cut. Which I actually believe to be far better.
Also, Walmart is the epidemy of “Corporate America”, given that 5 of the top ten billionaires in the world are co-owners of that evil corporation. Oh ya, and there is that whole child labor thing too.
Also, Ikea treats thier employees very well.
